Lake Victoria:
Lake Victoria is one of the Great Lakes of Africa. Lake Victoria is 68,800 square kilometres (26,560 mi²) in size, making it the continent's largest lake, the largest tropical lake in the world, and the second largest fresh water lake in the world in terms of surface area (third largest if one considers Lake Michigan-Huron as a single lake). It is the source of the longest branch of the Nile River, and the White Nile. Beautiful Bismack rocks are scattered on the beach.
Rubondo Island National Park:
Rubondo Island National Park comprises nine small islands in Lake Victoria and is the nearest National Park to Bukoba town.
It combines the breath-taking natural beauty of a forest refuge with the relaxing tranquility of sandy lake-shore beaches. It has unique diversity of flora and fauna.
Rubondo is a home of the rare and shy sitatunga, some chimpanzees, water ducks, hippos, bushbucks, vervet monkeys, colobus monkeys, genets, marsh mongoose, suni antelopes and elephants. Rubondo is a paradise for bird lovers, with nearly 400 species of birds.
Mwanza is also located near to several game reserves and national parks such as Maswa, Biharamulo, Burigi, Rumanyika Game Reserve, Rubondo and Serengeti National Park.
Saanane Island Wildlife Sanctuary:
It is a game reserve in a small, quite island next to Capri Point. Here there is a range of bird species, and few animals. It is ideal place for few minutes escape from the bustling, and hustling of the city.
