Nightlife in Tanzania
The nightlife in rural villages won’t resemble Ibiza but you may be offered some Pombe Kali (‘fierce spirit’): a local brew made from fermented coconut.
In Dar there are few nightclubs and Casinos such as Club Billicanas in the City Centre, Las Vegas Casino and club in Upanga area just next to Aga Khan Hospital, and Studi’s Club at Kimweri avenue, Namanga.
The best places are on the Msasani peninsular. The Q-Bar has a pool table and live music and dancing at the weekend. SlipWay also tend to have live music.Smokies Tavern is another good option for a night out.
Eating out is the city’s strong point. Most cuisines are catered for, from Japanese to Texan, and the food is fresh and cheap.
Forodhani food market in is one of good night spot to visit in Zanzibar for a quick bite. Mtoni Marine Resort has a very nice restaurant serving traditional and international cuisines
For a comprehensive guide to what’s going on in Dar, Arusha and Zanzibar, from restaurants to Kiswahili lessons, pick up ‘Advertising Dar’ which comes out every Monday in most supermarkets and shopping centres. As yet it hasn’t got a website but a few sites serving Dar have been set up recently.
The monthly ‘Dar es Salaam guide’, again found all around town, also has a good directory of shops, restaurants and accommodation in Dar, Zanzibar and Arusha.
